Plumb Center, part of the Wolseley group, has announced its first platinum sponsorship of the Institute of Plumbing and Heating Engineering (IPHE).

As part of the new partnership, the UK’s largest distributor of plumbing and heating products will deliver the key note speech at the IPHE’s 2008 ‘Challenge to Change’ conference series nationwide.

The event also has an accompanying exhibition, where Plumb Center will highlight its range of services and introduce relevant products featured in Wolseley’s Sustainable Building Center (SBC). The unique £3 million building will be an interactive showcase of innovative building products and technologies and is nearing completion at the company’s Leamington Spa site.

Plumb Center managing director Steve Ashmore said: “As the market leader we are delighted to support a highly reputable professional industry body and to be involved in its largest seminar series to date.

“As an official partner of the IPHE, we look forward to highlighting our strengths and services, such as our unrivalled distribution network and wide product range, to the membership.”

IPHE operations director Kevin Wellman added: “Plumb Center is the largest distributor in the industry and we are pleased to have a number one company on board. As an Industrial Associate member of the Institute, Plumb Center has once more shown its commitment to professional development by supporting these technical events and we look forward to working closely together in the future.

DIY disasters

Another Bank Holiday is on the horizon, which means that the nation’s DIYers will be planning to tackle jobs, which they hope will save themselves money.  However, a large number of these people will either end up injuring themselves, or cause damage to their property, which will cost a considerable sum to put right.

A lot of jobs are made to look simple on the television, but can go drastically wrong in the hands of inexperienced people.  Often Building and Water Regulations are ignored, which can also have a detrimental affect on people’s safety and health.

Danny Davis, technical officer for the Institute of Plumbing and Heating Engineering (IPHE) said: “Besides risking injuries, a lot of DIY enthusiasts also risk spending additional money employing someone to sort out the mess they have made.  My advice is not to take chances when dealing with the plumbing system in your home, always use a professional.”

Consumers can visit www.iphe.org.uk to find an IPHE Registered Plumber in their area or they can ring the Institute on 01708 472791 in office hours, Monday to Friday.
