Tea on the Terrace for CIPHE Guests
The sun shone as over 70 distinguished guests from the plumbing and heating industry, government and training organisations joined head office staff and officials from the Chartered Institute of Plumbing and Heating Engineering (CIPHE) for tea on the terrace at the House of Commons last week to celebrate the Institute’s new Chartered status.
Hornchurch MP James Brokenshire (the CIPHE head office is in his constituency) hosted the event which was also attended by ten regional CIPHE members selected at random to represent the membership as special guests of honour.
The magnificent Charter with its hand -made wax seal was on display during the afternoon together with a congratulatory illuminated scroll presented by the master of the Worshipful Company of Plumbers, David Alexander to CIPHE president Colin Stainer to mark the occasion.
The award of the Charter by the Privy Council is affirmation of the contribution the Institute makes to the safety and health of the public and the environment. It also recognises the role the organisation plays in the plumbing and heating industry, providing leadership, developing policy, raising standards through training and education, and making members accountable through the Code of Conduct
In his speech, chief executive of the CIPHE, Blane Judd stressed the important role the Institute must play to ensure that everyone involved in the industry is properly qualified to face the increasing challenge of diminishing global fresh water supplies. “Without correct design, installation and maintenance of plumbing & heating systems which combine the use of grey water and wholesome supplies, the risks to public health through cross contamination are high. In addition, the public, need to be educated on how to reduce their consumption of water.
“This can only be achieved through assistance in making informed choices about plumbing and heating systems. The Institute will continue its focus on the safety and health of the public and the protection of the environment working with its Industrial Associate members to promote and encourage the use of those who are professionally qualified.”
